Welcome to Bushy Point Fernbirds
eco-friendly birdwatchers bed & breakfast

A completely unique Bed & Breakfast in Southland New Zealand with a natural environment ideal for birdwatching. We are secluded so you feel you are staying in a B&B deep in the forest. In reality we are only 10 minutes from Invercargill city. A perfect location for accommodation before or following Stewart Island or the Catlins coast and Fiordland on the Southern Scenic route. We are close to the Riverton Invercargill leg of Te Araroa The Long Pathway.

Here you can watch birds from the doorstep of your room. Walk the track and boardwalk on our pest protected reserve at your leisure. Recover from your long journey in total peace and quiet. We offer free wireless internet.

Stay in accommodation you will remember always as part of your New Zealand experience. This is New Zealand the way it used to be.

Reviews:

Happy New Year! We had such a wonderful time at Bushy Point, it really was one of the highlights of our 4 weeks in New Zealand. We just loved being on the walkway, totally surrounded by vegetation. It was almost like deep sea diving in the sense of total immersion into a different environment. The fernbirds were lovely, but the fantails were magical and will remain with us like old friends. Thanks for your tips on walking on Sandy Point, since that got us two new birds as well—the brown creeper and tomtit.

We so enjoyed meeting you. Very best wishes,

Annie Cross and Alan Johnston

We had a wonderful time at Bushy Point and would like to thank you for your hospitality. We were very impressed with the effort you have put into restoring and maintaining the natural ecological environment of your reserve.  It is a most beautiful place. We hope to meet up with you again.
